About the image:
The field of view within this image is a small portion of the Scutum constellation that features a few small Messier and NGC objects. This image is created from 2 seperate panels that have been stitched together the create one image. This location is looking into the galactic plane of the Milky way galaxy but not directly towards the centre of the galaxy. Due to this view it is notable to sheer number of stars in the starfield in this area and well as the huge patches of dark interstellar dust, often creating dark tendrils throughout the image. Feel free to count the number of stars in the image :o)
