About the Rosette Nebula:

The Rosette Nebula and the star cluster at it's centre lie roughly 5,000 light years from Earth and measures roughly 130 light years in diameter. It covers an area about 5 times the size of the full moon. The nebula is a HII region, an emission nebula of ionised gases excited by the very bight and very hot stars in the cluster at the centre of the nebula.
